Located about 35 minutes north of Brisbane, Redcliffe is the most recognisable area in the Morton Bay Region. Once known as a low-key, working-class area, Redcliffe has transformed over the last few decades into a trendy tourist hotspot. Located about 45 minutes from the Brisbane CBD and a similar distance to the Sunshine Coast, it is a great middle-ground with plenty of its own features. In today’s blog, we’re taking a closer look at some of the display homes you can visit in Redcliffe. Since we’re talking about the beach, we thought it’d be a great opportunity to look at the pros and cons of coastal living so you can decide if it’s the lifestyle for you.

Coastal Lifestyle Pros and Cons
It’s easy to imagine that living by the beach would be like being on holiday 24/7, however like most things, there’s more to it than that. For one thing, as hard as it is to believe for beach-lovers, the costal life simply isn’t for everyone. Before you pack your bags and build your new home near the ocean, it’s worth considering a few pros and cons.
Pros:
The Beach is at your doorstep
Whether you’re literally beside the coast or ten minutes away, it’s nice to know you can go for a dip without having to put the entire day aside for it.
Great for your Health
Beautiful landscaping is a great inspiration to get out of the house and rack up those 10,000 steps each day, but there are other benefits too. Getting enough sun and fresh air is fantastic for your mental health.
Investment opportunity
Anyone who’s looked into investment properties knows it takes a lot of work to find the perfect area, house and land. While nothing is certain in real estate, houses near the beach are always going to attract attention and be in demand.
Lots To Do
Redcliffe has evolved into a tourist hotspot, with some of the most highly regarded restaurants in the Morten Bay Region. Along with the beach at your door, you can there are plenty of bushland and places for walks, and Brisbane isn’t too far away if you want a day in the city.
Cons:
Unpredictable Weather
Beautiful weather is what comes to mind when we think about the beach, but the shore line is where wild weather can really cause some damage. Huge waves and flooding can be a concern for those in beach areas, and though Redcliffe is too far south to experience a cyclone (not impossible but unlikely) it can still be subject to torrential rains and heavy storms.
More Expensive
Always dreamed of living near the beach? Unfortunately for you and your bank balance, you’re not the only one. Areas near the beach are in high demand and the price will reflect that, especially when they’re world class beaches like we have in Australia. You can cut down on that extra cost, by living further away from the beach. You won’t have the same view, but the still can visit the beach without much hassle.
Maintenance:
The biggest potential drawback for a homeowner living near the beach is the upkeep that comes with a coastal property. The corrosive nature of saltwater and even the salt in the air can cause some real damage to your property, car and other items if you don’t stay on top of it. Most consider this a small price to pay, but it’s definitely something to be aware of.
Busy area
Living near a beautiful beach, especially somewhere in a growing area like Redcliffe, you’re going to have to accept that you’ll rarely have the coastline to yourself. People literally travel from the otherside of the world to experience our beaches, so expecting anything but crowds during the summer months and on public holidays is a fool’s game.

Is Redcliffe the right area for my dream home?
Redcliffe offers both beachside living and more affordable suburban options. There are plenty of sporting facilities (and a new NRL team on the way), tourist attractions, beautiful landscapes and restaurants for you to enjoy in Redcliffe.
The biggest downside with moving to Redcliffe is that it is a booming area so prices are soaring. A land package in Redcliffe will likely be more expensive than in some other places in the Moreton Bay Region.
